City council, in a close 5-4 vote, on Tuesday evening agreed to take over the costs and maintenance of lighting around a Kingston waterfront condominium development. The Frontenac Condominium Corp. had asked the city to take over the operation of the lighting system around the Commodore’s Cove condos at 1098 King St. West. The 37 lights run along the waterfront path, which is heavily used by the public, and in the condominium’s parking lot. To switch the lighting from the private electrical system to a public one would cost approximately $30,000, then subsequent operational costs for running the lights and maintaining the path.
