HOA Over Easy

Author Harvey Radin has words of inspiration for homeowners serving on HOA boards and committees. In his new booklet, HOA Over Easy, he describes the wonders of HOA infrastructure. “Infrastructure management is where the rubber meets the road.” In a chapter about financial management, he writes: “Gaining fiscal knowledge and insights through HOA volunteer work is like earning a mini-MBA degree.” Comparing HOA communication to a fine restaurant’s signature dish, he says communication “should be seasoned well, the portion should be just right and it should be satisfying.” He also talks about: • Neighbor relations • Privacy issues • PR strategy (whether or not HOAs need a PR plan) HOA Over Easy also features examples of a PR Q&A briefing and articles for HOA media. “Like many volunteers, I had a lot on my plate when I was elected to my HOA board, my fulltime career, family responsibilities and more. There was little spare time to learn HOA,” Radin recalls. So I wrote HOA Over Easy to give volunteers quick, easy insights in less than 30 minutes.” During his multi-decade corporate career, Radin was known for his nonconventional approach to communication and PR. For example, when he had bankers at a major, multinational bank attempt a new world record for squeezing the most people inside a compact car, a VW bug. Back in the 1950s, college students and others set records that had lasted for decades. Radin figured that resurrecting this competition with pinstriped, buttoned-down bankers squeezing inside the car would be kind of fun and unexpected. He worked on serious issues as well, involving media relations and crisis management. His articles about public opinion, communication and PR have been published in American Banker, Business Insider, PR media and regional newspapers.
