  • Fire hits previously burned, boarded-up condo in Des Moines Friday morning; (IA) March 15, 2024
    After this condo experienced a blaze in January, it was boarded up and was not supposed to be occupied due to previous fire damage.  The first of numerous crews arrived on-scene at 5:39 a.m. with heavy smoke coming from the building, and with several police officers complaining of smoke inhalation.   Read the article…………………………….
  • Governor Signed Legislation Allowing Private Entities to Regulate Activities on Public Lakes (IA) March 2, 2024
    The governor recently signed a bill that allows the Lake Panorama homeowners association to regulate boating on the public lake, including rules about the operation of watercraft and equipment specifications, as well as allowing private buoys to be set up in the lake. The legislation was narrowly tailored for Lake Panorama, by stating that the homeowners association (called a common interest community in the legislation) must have 1,000 or more units.   Read the article…………………………….

    The Iowa Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a no-pets building in Iowa City, Iowa, should not have allowed a new tenant to have an emotional support dog after an objection by another tenant with severe allergies.  The court ruled 4-3 for tenant Karen Cohen in her lawsuit for breach of her lease’s no-pets provision and interference with the “quiet enjoyment” of her property.    Read the article…………………………….

The president has decided to have someone come and drill weep holes in our structure right at the brick ledge area of the slab.  I had asked him about insects/termites getting in them now.
