Bailley Commentary – The Legal Beagle
Operation Freedoms Paws:
One of the attorneys in our office brought to my attention something called Operation Freedoms Paws, which runs on donations and community support, in order to provide veterans with vests, leashes, collars, bowls, food and initial medical care and vaccines for the dog. In effect, the dog serves as a service animal and is an important tool in the healing process for the veteran. I know that we dogs can be trained to assist veterans in a variety of ways, including dealing with nightmares, turning off lights, creating space between the veteran and others in public spaces and generally keeping the anxiety level down in stressful situations. I think it is great that we dogs are being used in so many ways these days.
