Hidden Damage – Life, Death, and Legislation?

When we first wrote on this topic twenty years ago, hidden damage—a cancer that can severely affect buildings but remain out of sight for decades—was primarily an economic problem. Community Associations found themselves deep in debt when the cost of repair of accumulated, but hidden, rot, corrosion, and other water damage, greatly exceeded cash reserves. Sometimes this damage was known but ignored, or “deferred,” by Boards of Directors to keep owner expenses low.
