Homes vs. beaches: Court makes key decision in battle over California seawall construction amid ocean rise

In 2016, a severe storm caused 20 feet of bluffs to collapse into the ocean in front of Casa Mira, a complex of 10 townhouses on Mirada Road that’s 2 miles north of Half Moon Bay. Worried their homes were in imminent danger, the owners obtained an emergency permit from the Coastal Commission to place boulders, called riprap, along the crumbling shoreline to block the waves from causing more damage.  But when they applied to build a permanent 257-foot concrete sea wall, the commission said no.   Read the article…………………………….
