Last year, a tiny sliver of property in the Lake Charlene community became a political and ideological battleground. Last month, more than two dozen homes became casualties of that battle. Hurricane Sally caused severe flood damage to numerous homes in the Lake Charlene subdivision last month despite a fully-funded plan in place to improve flood control in the region. The project was shelved last year because Escambia County and the Lake Charlene Homeowner’s Association couldn’t agree to the specifics of a 0.11-acre land sale necessary to move the project forward.
