Shade can ease heat, but one neighborhood finds trees are just part of the solution (AZ)

Don McNeil walks the tree-lined streets of Westbrook Village in Peoria to keep his blood pressure down, but hotter weather limits his daily outings.  He suffered several strokes two years ago, which stymied his body’s ability to regulate heat. Since then, he’s become more passionate about rising temperatures due to climate change and heat-absorbing urban sprawl.  So when his homeowners association told residents in March that the neighborhood would likely need to remove some of the trees along Edgewater Road, a street in the neighborhood, McNeil and other residents spoke up. Fewer trees, they worried, would result in less shade and more heat, the product of the urban heat island effect.      Read the article………………
