$742K Verdict After Stairwell Banister Collapsed (CT)

The plaintiff was walking up a staircase in a common area of her building. Reportedly, the stairwell’s banister had broken nearly three years earlier, and had been duct-taped together by another tenant. While the plaintiff was ascending the stairs, the taped-together stairwell banister collapsed beneath her weight. She fell backward down the staircase, and sustained injuries. The plaintiff was taken by ambulance to Pequot Medical Center, and was evaluated with an L5-S1 disc hernia.
