Earlier this year, an Auburn homeowners’ association made news when it required everyone in the community to keep their garage doors open or face a $400 fine. The policy was reportedly a response to someone in the community allowing people to live in their garage. Anyone who left the garage door closed could be subject to a $200 fine, despite the risk of theft that came with leaving the door open (the rule has since been rescinded).
