After spending two years as an ombudsman for the state, I definitely agree with state Sen. Debbie Mayfield, who has a bill before the Senate, SB 1530, that offers more protection for condo owners. A previous bill, SB 1682, was opposed by Gov. Scott as having too much clout against board members who could have faced jail time for certain violations. Mayfield’s bill would be a follow-up on the grand jury report of Miami-Dade grand jury that said the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation was “ill suited” to resolve problems and showed no eagerness to root out corruption.
